Here are some of Julie’s recent photos from training and from this week’s Tuesday night trip from Nesting: Cheers Mark The first outdoor training session of the year took place in Thursday this week with over 20 kayaks taking to the water on a fine spring evening in ideal conditions. Split into groups, the beginners got their first real taste of paddling after learning the basics in the Clickimin pool. A great time had by [...] Not long now until the free Try It session which is on Thursday 24th March at 8.00 p.m. at the Clickimin pool and is open to anyone interested in trying a kayak for the first time, or those returning to the sport after a long break. For those who wish to join in the Beginners Session please see [...] That’s the end of the pool training sessions until the new year. Thanks to Angus, Arthur and anyone else that has helped with the one-to-one tuition during the sessions to date. Pool sessions will begin again in February. at the Clickimin Leisure Centre , Lerwick On Thursday nights from 8.00 to 9.00 p.m. Start from 7th October to 25th November New year sessions start from 3rd February to 7th April Beginner sessions start from 14th April through to the 5th May. We then go to the Bridge End Outdoor Centre for open water training Some intrepid members of the club were out in Busta Voe on Saturday 21 August – in force 8 / 9 winds! They only went a wee bit out of the marina, and there was a rescue boat at hand. All those who took part enjoyed it – though they were mostly thoroughly shattered to [...] There will be no training on Thursday 1 July or on Thursday 8 July. Training starts again on Thursday 15 July If you did some pool training but haven’t got round to coming outdoors yet come along on July 15th and make a start. We will be very happy to see you. There will be another 7 [...] On Thursday (17 June) a group of 15 intrepid paddlers went to play at the outflow of Strom Loch. New paddlers were able to learn “breaking in” to the current from an eddy and “breaking out” again. Some mastered a “ferry glide” across the river too. Meet at strom bridge as soon after 6:30 as you can. The loch empties out under the bridge into the sea and while the tide is low the flow of water creates a very short [...] A great turnout for the first outdoor beginners session of the year, despite the breezy conditions. Numbers were good enough that all the sea kayaks were used and couple of GP boats too. The southerly chop made for a nice extra challenge for beginners across the voe but all managed fine and handled [...] |
